Intel 48-Core SCC Computer Unveiled

Intel finally unveiled its experimental stamp-sized silicon 48-Core processor. This is a sure monster in terms of speed but what’s amazing about this is the power consumption and power management features. The 48-core SCC can vary the voltage and operating frequency of the tiles in the mesh network to operate from 25W to a maximum of 125W.

The Name single-crystal cloud computer reflects the structural similarity between the new processors and computer centers, utilized now for organizing cloud calculations with the access through Internet.

A couple of years ago, Intel developed an 80-core processor but it was more proof-of-concept with little practical application. The 48-core is more functional which includes some innovative technologies that improves power efficiency.

This new processor is equivalent to 12 quad-core processors in a single chip with a consuming power equivalent to quad-core CPU.

Windows 7, however is capable of managing up to 256-core processors, so bring it on.
